Nodular acne

Nodular acne is painful bumps below the surface of the skin that are large and came as a result of inflammation and buildup of oil deep within the pore. Acne nodules are also one of the most severe forms of acne. It is only surpassed by cysts, which look like nodules but are pus-filled.

Nodular acne is characterized by hard, painful acne lesions deep under the skin that often affects the face, chest, or back. Unlike regular pimples that often heal within a few days, acne nodules may last for weeks, if not months.

They tend not to develop a white head but may remain as hard knots under the skin. If left untreated, nodules are most likely to leave scars behind and could become chronic.

Nodular acne can be painful, and its appearance may affect a person’s self-esteem, but there are home remedies for severe nodule acne. However, dermatologists recommend consulting a doctor if nodular acne persists.

Causes of Nodular Acne?

Nodular acne occurs when the overactive sebaceous glands join together with hair follicles giving rise to oily sebum, which comes in contact with dirt and bacteria, leading to inflammation that results in the formation of painful and hard acne.

Typically, teenagers suffer from nodular or cystic acne, but these days, more and more dermatologists are seeing patients in their late 40s and in some cases 50s having severe nodular adult acne.

Symptoms of Nodular Acne

The primary symptom of nodular acne is the appearance of hard lesions on the face, chest, or back, that may also affect other parts of the body.

Nodules may appear red and inflamed, or it may be the same color as the skin. They may be painful to touch and have been described by people as hard knots under the skin.

Nodular acne breakouts may last for weeks or months, and without treatment, nodular acne may cause scarring.

7 Home Remedies And Prevention of Nodular Acne

It is best to use home remedies alongside treatments prescribed by a doctor. Home remedies for nodular acne include:

Detoxification

Regular detoxification is a solution to removing toxic elements from the colon and from the entire body. Several steps in detoxification include: juicing, fasting, and sweating through saunas, steam or exercise. These activities can all help.

Juicing mainly consists of drinking green juices and smoothies made of vegetables and fruits like spinach, cucumber and green apples, and when we combine it with fasting once every few weeks, it removes toxic overload that we subject our bodies.

Toxicity of the body occurs mostly through bad food, sugary beverages, and other pollutants in our environment. When detoxifying, you must drink plenty of water and eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a highly effective and all natural acne remedy that regulates the pH of the body and helps heal the skin, hair and many other physical issues.

Drink organic apple cider vinegar first thing every morning on an empty stomach, or you can dilute it with some warm water or add a few teaspoons of orange juice if you do not like the raw taste.

Make sure to choose organic apple cider vinegar with mother, and you can also apply diluted apple cider vinegar to the cysts directly to reduce pain and inflammation.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is an anti-bacterial agent. When applied topically, it will help to fight the bacteria causing the infection deep within the pore.

Tea tree oil has been proved in studies to be as effective as its chemical counterpart benzoyl peroxide. The combination of zinc supplements to fight acne from the inside while applying tea tree oil topically on the skin provide a great acne-fighting combination.

Olive oil

Some people recommend cleansing the skin with olive oil to reduce acne, since the olive oil joins with excess oil on the skin, helping lift it out of the pores. This, they believe help prevent clogging and reduce breakouts.

There is little evidence to suggest olive oil supports skin health or prevents acne, but a study carried out in 2010 found olive oil to have antioxidant properties when used on the skin.

Reducing Stress

Stress hormones in the body may trigger acne breakouts, and this is where mindfulness, meditation, or yoga may help reduce breakouts. These activities are known to reduce stress levels and improve general well-being.

Exercise

Regular exercise can help you sweat and throw out the toxins that contribute to nodular acne, as it also releases endorphins that counter stress-causing hormones in the body, and make us feel good. Exercising for 45 minutes daily or at least 4 times a week, and drinking plenty of water should be a must for you. Do this and see how your skin starts glowing within weeks!

Diet And Water Intake

People prone to regular nodular acne must avoid oily and sugary foods while ensuring to drinking at least 8-10 glasses of water on a daily basis. A diet rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, vitamins and minerals can also benefit the skin significantly.
